Picea pungens - Blue Spruce

Native North American tree from mountain zones, the blue spruce is loved by many, and respected by even more, for its prickly deer proof nature. Slow-growing but handsome. Of all the conifers, the spruces are the most deer proof in our area, which explains their resurgence over the past 20 years or so. Some blue spruce are actually powder blue in color, while some are green. The colors tend to be fairly well fixed, so choose based on the colors you see on young trees in the nursery.
