Cornus sericea - Redtwig Dogwood

Our very local native silky dogwood is known for its striking red bark in winter. But it also has some winning traits rarely noted. For one, it thrives in wet soils and flooded areas, tolerating standing water and enjoying the thrill of living in creeks and streams where the water roars in spring. It's valuable for soil erosion and knits the banks as well as willows. White flowers are fragrant and showy in spring, as are the white fruits in fall.
