Liatris spicata - Gay Feather

Another beautiful and super-tough perennial from the prairie that has strayed into the northeast and mid Atlantic states. Growing from a corm (bulb-like storage organ), the long, slender leaves emerge in warm weather and form a sort of plume. Soon after, the plant bolts, and the pink flower spikes reach up to 3' in most garden situations, sometimes taller. Adaptable to any soils and conditions except wet shade. Butterflies love this plant, and you will too.
