Panicum virgatum - Switchgrass

Perhaps the best expression of common ground between modern horticulture and native plant enthusiasts, switchgrass has it all--graceful form, poignant colors that sharpen as the season progresses, deer resistence, hardiness, drought tolerance and adaptabiltiy. Usually reaching 3'-4' tall and 2'-3' wide, switchgrass also has a fairly perfect stature--the midsize grass. There are cultivars galore, and in my opinion 'Shenandoah' is one of the best all-time cultivars of any plant, period.
