Rudbeckia maxima - Giant Coneflower

This blue-leaved giant has turned heads at all stages of growth--huge powder blue rosette in spring, Herculean flower stalks in summer, and the perfect yellow coneflowers blooming in August and September at up to 6' tall. Hard to say what this plant prefers, because it seems to thrive everywhere, from clay to soggy nursery pots after days of rain, to poor dry soils. Has stood up like a champ in this wet summer--in other words, it doesn't flop like other tall coneflowers. The stalks are burly.
